Inside Pitti 89

Pitti ended almost a month ago, however most of the so-called Pitti-reviews focused mainly on the street-style type photos, trends from the street (which actually is a swuare in front of the pavillon, not any street) or maybe some ‘trends’ as seen in Florence. Why is it in “..”? Well because very few people described some trends that could be seen inside the buildings as presented by the brands. There are not too many photos of the stands or booths as some call them. Did anyone even go inside Pitti 89 pavillons then? Did the third rainy day make them walk around the pavillon and inspect the collections? Or maybe the only people that go inside are the ones doing business at Pitti. Maybe none of the press people are interested in the real collections, apart from few individuals who I will mention at the end of this post. Interesting questions have been asked I hope so you can comment and answer below or we could discuss this during the next edition in June ;). Meanwhile lets have a look at the inside and what are the real trends for 2016/17 autumn-winter collections.

If I were to spoil this post and answer in one sentence I would have to say that there was nothing very new and nothing really surprised me. Next season is going to be relatively similar to this season. More and more often brands move into casual tailoring and this is definitely the direction of high quality RTW brands. More casual, textured fabrics, something like wool mixed with cashmere or silk, many geometric prints – also on jackets and overcoats! Jersey sport coats are going to be a big thinkg, that’s for sure. They are everything that guys are looking for today – light, comfortable, often warm because of thicker fabrics and maybe most importantly quite casual. Smart kardigan or sweater is similar in terms of style.

Speaking of sweaters. It seems like winter outfit cannot exist without additional layer of cardigan, vest or sweater. Considering the warm winters in Italy and England for example I am a little bit surprised. Wearing too many layers will only make you feel too warm while in the office, however maybe the coats are getting lighter. Layering definitely is a big thing too. Vests are at almost every booth. They are relatively cheap to make, suit almost everyone and can be made quickly. They also very easily add contrast and interest to the outfit. No wonder they are so popular. Another interesting way to add a layer under the coat or overcoat is a scarf. Worn casually with both ends stuck under the jacket has similar role to a tie, even more when worn over turtleneck or sweater. Turtlenecks with jackets, especially those with visible texture a big thing too.
Similar principles apply to ties. Basically every item of a mens outfit that can add contrast and texture to the look is beneficial if done elegantly and aesthetically.
Denim shirts were very popular indeed. They allow you to match them very easily (because of plain colour) with prints and textures of winter wardrobe. The fabric itself is warm enough to give you some comfort during cold days and they are perfectly casual. Anything in brown, green, orange, navy or grey works well with blue denim shirt so you can get one for yourself. It will always look good.

It was also quite interesting to see some casual, almost streetwear like brands. We have seen fancy jackets made of japanese fabric in blue shades moro. Definitely a bold piece but I can see it being worn as an element of unicolour look, like total navy or similar. It would look great with just a little bit of contrast. It is great actually seeing tailored clothes in more casual fabrics like this. I remember Holland & Sherry, correct me if I am wrong, presented a classic moro camouflage wool cloth for suits or rather sport coats. In this way menswear can explore new areas in mens fashion and it is only up to an individual to pull it off and wear in style. Is it stylish to wear camouflage jacket? That’s a good question but I will focus on what “stylish” does mean in one of the next posts.

Marynarka z nowoczesnej japońskiej tkaniny w niebieskie odcienie moro?

In terms of shoes I was very happy, and my wife even more, to see big selection of womens shoes from Carmina. They designed some fantastic shoes including red double monks or even calf leather wholecut oxfords! It’s amazing that women now can wear shoes which used to be considered to be of classic mens elegance.
Below you can see more photos from the Inside Pitti 89 pavillon. Hope you like it. If you did then please also check some other ‘reviews’ of brands from Pitti at the links below. My friends Atte from DressLikeA and Juho from TheNordicFit have already written few words about what they have seen.

Thanks for reading and see you soon!
