Suitsupply MTM program

Suitsupply offers a variety of different styles of their suits. However there are clients who simply can not fit into any of those styles and sizes or want service which will allow them to modify their suit.

At Suitsupply all modifications are in a group called Tailoring Service which is divided into three more categories that differ in the number of modifications available. The following options are available:

• In-Store Tailoring
• Blue Line Personal Tailoring
• Suit Up Personal Tailoring

Besides ready to wear collection, as you can see, Suitsupply offers Blue Line (semi MTM) and Suit Up Personal Tailoring (Full MTM) which are only available in bigger cities (you can find them here). I met Aaron – MTM specialist from London’s flagship store on Vigo Street who kindly explained everything to me. I hope you will find the following information on Suitsupply MTM program being provided in an organised and accessible matter. Lets start then.

Suitsupply oferuje garnitury w bardzo wielu roznych stylach. Zdarza sie jednak, ze klient nie znajduje dobrze dopasowanej marynarki do swojej figury lub po prostu chcialby bardziej spersonalizowany produkt, taki ktorego akurat nie ma w sklepie. Moze jakas ciekawa tkanina lub spodnie z podwojnymi zakladkami. W tym wypadku najlepsza opcja jest garnitur w sytemie mate-to-measure (na wymiar). 

W Suitsupply system ten nazywa sie ‘Tailoring Serice’ i jest podzielony na trzy kategorie – kazda z inna iloscia dozwolonych modyfikacji lub ilosci dostepnych tkanin. Usluga ta jest dostepna w wybranych sklepach. Mozna je znalezc na oficjalnej stronie pod tym linkiem. Made-to-measure oferowane jest jako:

Fabrics

Suitsupply MTM program consultation always start with fabrics choice. The Made To Measure Specialist would ask you how often do you intent to wear your suit, you would discuss temperatures that the suits is going to be worn in. Weather you need wedding suit or a business suit, how often would the suit be worn and based on this a most relevant fabric would be chosen. So i.e. for business suits you want to wear it approximately 3 times a week then you would choose hard wearing super 110s wool or maybe go up to super 130s. In case of a wedding suit you might want to go for something a little bit more luxurious like super 160s or mohair.

Konsultacja w systemie szycia na wymiar (od tej pory bede to w skrocie nazywal MTM) zawsze zaczyna sie od wyboru tkaniny. Specialista MTM najpierw bedzie chcial dowiedziec sie jak planujemy nosic garnitur, tj. w jakich temperaturach najczesciej, na jakie okazje czy jak czesto. Na tej podstawie zasugeruje najlepsze tkaniny. Np jesli zdecydujemy, ze potrzebujemy garnituru do pracy, ktory bedzie noszony 3 razy w tygodniu to welna super 110’s powinna sprawdzic sie najlepiej bo jest to wytrzymaly i odporny material. There are more than 900 fabrics that you can choose from and once the outer fabric is chosen you would decide on the lining fabric. As a lining you can pick the main body lining and a lining for the jett of the pockets as well to add some contrast. A popular option is to choose a matching colour for the main lining and contrasting, i.e. flower printed lining for contrasting lining around pockets inside. There are around 70 different lining fabrics so quite a broad range.

Measurements

Once the outer fabric and the lining fabrics are chosen you would be measured which would be a main part of the appointment. In Suitsupply MTM program there are 40 different measurements being taken.

NOTE: The main difference between Blue Line and Suit Up is that the Blue Line is sort of an extension of the Ready-to-wear. You can mix and match different sizes – say jacket size 40 but trousers from size 38. There are 10 measurements being taken like: jacket and sleeve length, waist and chest size, square back neck, waist, seat, thigh, foot and trouser length measurements.

On the full MTM (Suit Up) Suitsupply specialist would look at the balance of your shoulders, would look if you stand uprise or forward, bicep width, armhole height, shoulder blade width and many more. You would then start with trying on different jacket sizes and choose the one as close to the right size as possible. Everything would be pinned wherever needed. Once the size and all adjustments are decided on there comes the styling part of the appointment.

Kiedy dokonamy wyboru zarowno zewnetrznej tkaniny jak i podszewki nastapi proces zbierania miary. To w zasadzie bedzie glowna czesc spotkania. W systemie MTM Suitsupply zbiera sie z klienta 40 roznych wymiarow.

UWAGA: Najwieksza roznica pomiedzy linia Blue i Suit Up to ilosc wymiarow oraz to, ze w Blue Line mamy do wyboru tylko jeden styl garnituru – dlatego nazywa sie go czesto rozszerzonym gotowym garniturem – w wolnym tlumaczeniu. Przede wszystkim plusy tej linii to mozliwosc dobrania spodni w innym rozmiarze niz standardowo przypisane do rozmiaru marynarki. W wersji pelnego szycia na wymiar MTM (Suit Up) pod uwage wziete zostana tez takie aspekty jak balans ramion, pochylenie tulowia, wymiar bicepsu, wielkosc otworu ramienia, ustawienie lopatek oraz wiele innych. Pozniej nastapiloby przymierzanie roznych rozmiarow marynarek tak aby dopasowac ten najblizszy. Wszystko zostalo by podpinane szpilkami tak zeby miec pojecie na temat finalnego dopasowania. Kiedy zdjete zostana wszystkie wymiary i uzgodnione poprawki nastapi przyjemny etap czyli projektowanie swojego garnituru.

Design of the suit

The good option about having an extensive range of RTW jacket styles is that they can show a customer how the jacket would look like with details he has chosen. You don’t have to imagine the final outcome. A similar jacket can be tried on to give you an idea on what to expect in terms of style – double breasted vs single breasted or whether 3 buttons or 2 are better suited for yourself.

Blue Line Tailoring

On the Blue Line there is only one style – two-button, notch lapel with slightly padded shoulder, two straight side flap pockets and flat front trousers – generally similar to Napoli style suit. Trouser will also be with belt loops, slanted side pockets and two pockets on the back of the trousers.

Most important aspect of Blue Line is that you can choose different size of trousers and make alterations even beyond what normally can be altered. Particularly useful for someone with extra long arms. It is rather simple version of made to measure program. It is said to be very popular with wedding parties when there is a need for more suits in the same style but in different sizes. Also very suitable for people buying sort of altered version of RTW suit but want extra pair of trousers. It is also worth mentioning that jacket can be ordered with odd trousers. This can all be done in Blue Line program.

Jednym z plusow szycia na wymiar MTM jest fakt, ze zazwyczaj w sklepie dostepnych jest wiele marynarek w roznych rozmiarach i stylach ktore mozemy przymierzyc. Daje nam to jakis poglad na dopasowanie finalnego garnituru. Nie ma potrzeby wyobrazania sobie koncowego efektu. Mozna spokojnie sprawdzic czy bardziej pasuje nam dwurzedowa marynarka czy moze taka na 3 guziki lub 2. 

W linii Blue Line do zamowienia dostepny jest tylko jeden styl garnituru. To jednorzedowa marynarka na dwa guziki z otwartymi klapami i dwiema kieszeniami z klapami. Ramiona sa delikatnie usztywnione, a spodnie maja plaski front – bardzo podobnie do stylu Lazio. Spodnie beda mialy tez szlufki, skosne kieszenie po bokach i dwie kieszenie na guzik z tylu.

Najwazniejszym aspektem linii Blue jest to, ze mozna mieszac rozne rozmiary marynarek i spodni, a poprawek mozna dokonywac w wiekszym stopniu niz przy garniturach gotowych RTW. Szczegolnie istotne np dla osob z szczegolnie dlugimi rekami. Jest to raczej uproszczona wersja klasycznego MTM. Jest tez bardzo popularna na przyjeciach slubnych kiedy Pan Mlody potrzebuje przynajmniej kilku garniturow identycznych, ale w innych rozmiarach dla swoich druzb. Jest to takze popularna opcja dla osob ktore chcialyby zamowic dodatkowa pare spodni. Co ciekawe mozliwe jest zamowienie osobno spodni i marynarki.

Suit Up Personal Tailoring

Jacket

The styling would start with buttoning so either one-button, two-button, three-button or two and a half-button jacket style, all can be made with notch or peak lapel. You can also choose double breasted jacket which is offered as 3 show 2 fasten version. Tuxedo can also be made with shawl collar and peak lapel. In each of the options button stance can be adjusted.

The width of the lapel depends on whether you choose notch lapel or peak lapel. Both styles are available in three sizes small, medium and wide. If you decide on double breasted jacket then the lapel is only available as peak lapel medium in width.

Next think to choose would be the pocket style. Available options are: straight or angled. Both with or without flaps. It is interesting that Suitsupply offers variable width of the flaps. Normally it is advisable to match them with the width of the lapel. Pockets can be jetted (no flaps) or patch pockets which can be made as more rectangular or rounded – very popular and nice detail I think. There is also an option to choose hunting pockets.
Position of the pockets can’t be adjusted but the chest pocket can be moved higher or lower. If customers wants ticket pockets are available (both straight and slanted).

Wybor stylu zaczyna sie od marynarki i wyboru dwurzedowej lub jednorzedowej. Mozliwe opcje to zapinanie na jeden, dwa, dwa i pol albo trzy guziki. Marynarka dwurzedowa jest tylko w jednym stylu, tj 6×2 czyli 6 guzikow a zapinane 2. Klapy w tym wypadku beda zamkniete (szpiczaste) o sredniej szerokosci bez mozliwosci modyfikacji. Smokingi mozliwe sa do wyboru takze z klapami szalowymi. W kazdej z opcji mozliwe jest przesuniecie polozenia gornego guzika (zapinajacego) w zaleznosci od proporcji klienta.

Klapy i ich szerokosc zalezy od tego na jaki styl sie zdecydujemy, tj. czy na klapy otwarte czy w zamkniete (w szpic). Obie sa dostepne w trzech szerokosciach: waskie, standardowe i szerokie. Klapy marynarki dwurzedowej oferowane sa jedynie jako zamkniete o standardowej szerokosci.

Nastepna rzecza do ustalenia sa kieszenie. Dostepne opcje to kieszenie proste lub skosne. Obie moga byc z patkami lub bez (tzw kieszenie smokingowe). Co ciekawe to mozna nawet dobrac szerokosc patek. Zazwyczaj ustala sie to zgodnie z szerokoscia klap, dlatgo tez do dyspozycji sa trzy rodzaje szerokosci, tak jak w klapach. Dobiera sie je odpowiednio – waskie do waskich itd. Mozna takze wybrac kieszenie naszywane, ktore dostepne sa w dwoch ksztaltach. Bardziej kwadratowe lub okragle. Modyfikacji podlega tez kieszonka piersiowa. Mozna wybrac ja jako prosta, w ksztalcie lodeczki lub okragla/kwadratowa jako naszywana (wersja casualowa). Zaokraglone kieszeni naszywane to bardzo ladny detal w casualowych garniturach lub marynarkach sportowych. Mozliwosci wyboru koncza sie na kieszeniach w stylu kurtek mysliwskich.
Polozenie kieszeni, zarowno tych bocznych ja i piersiowej, podlega modyfikacji. Ponadto mozna dodac druga kieszonke boczna, tzw biletowke, ktorej klapy beda proste lub skosne.

Number of vents is also variable. Customer can choose no vent, one vent or two vents (side vents) option.

Number of the buttons on the cuff can be chosen as three, four of five buttons. All will be functional. There is also an option to choose the colour of the stitching around buttonholes. I personally wouldn’t advise on that option but sometimes, let’s say for the wedding gentleman wants to add just a little bit of the colour to the outfit and then it is good to have this option. There are about 48 button style options.

Do wyboru jest trzy rodzaje rozciec (szlic) marynarki: bez rozciec, z jednym lub dwiema.

Ilosc guzikow na rekawach tez jest modyfikowana. Do wyboru jest zero guzikow, cztery lub piec. Wszystkie beda funkcjonalne (dziurki beda rozciete). Jako dodatek mozna wybrac inny kolor obszycia ostatniej lub kazdej innej dziurki. Osobiscie nie jestem fanem takiego rozwiazania i stawialbym na klasyke, ale zdarza sie, ze takie dodatki zamawiane sa na garnitur slubny. Dodaje to dyskretnie innego koloru do calego stroju choc moze ograniczyc liczbe dodatkow jakie zalozymy z ta marynarka. Dostepnych jest 48 rodzajow guzikow.

Next thing to decide upon would be shoulder styles. Suitsupply mtm program offers four different styles:

1. soft shoulder – most similar to Havana style which has some padding in but is very soft
2. roped shoulder – no padding at all but obviously more rope into the shoulder
3. pleated shoulder – similar to Spalla suit in Jort collection, very much like Neapolitan cut
4. fully padded shoulder – most similar to Lazio cut, structured but not overly, rather like Italian than heavy English padd

In terms of canvass inside jackets there are two options. Both Blue Line and Suit Up options will use the full-canvass jackets. In terms of its weight there are two levels: one is called regular, which in Suitsupply standards is quite soft, nothing heavy and the other option is light canvass – very soft – more suitable for summer unlined jackets in linen rather than suits. Definitely more casual look.

Jackets can be made as full or half lined. There is an option to add a mobile phone pocket inside too. All suits as a standard would come with chest pocket and ticket pocket.

Customer can also customize his suit by adding a monogram to it. It can be placed on the back of the collar or on the inside on the lining. There is a variety of colours available as well as fonts.

Kolejna rzecza ktora trzeba wybrac jest styl ramion/wszycia rekawa. Program Suitsupply MTM oferuje cztery rozne opcje:

1. miekkie – podobne do stylu Havana, bardzo miekkie ramiona z cienkim wkladem
2. rekaw wywiniety delikatnie do gory w miejscu wszycia – we wloskim stylu (na mysl przychodzi szczegolnie pracownia Sciamat)
3. marszczone wszyscie – typowo poludniowo Wloskie (Neapolitanskie)
4. tradycyjne ramie z usztywnieniem – mozna powiedziec angielskie, najbardziej sztywne ze wszystkich, ale nie az tak bardzo jak tradycyjne angielskie krawiectwo

Jesli chodzi o wklad (konstrukcje) marynarki to mamy do dyspozycji dwa rodzaje plotna. Obie, Blue i Suit Up, linie wykonane sa w calosci na plotnie. Waga wkladu dostepna jest w dwoch wersjach: standardowej dosc miekkiej i lekkiej. Lekki wklad jest naprawde bardzo delikatny i nadaje sie tylko na letnie marynarki bez podszewki. Nie polecalbym uzywania w garniturze bo nada mu zbyt luznego charakteru.

Marynarki moga byc uszyte jako calkiem podszyte lub bez podszewki. Mozna takze dodac specjalna kieszonke na telefon komorkowy. Wewnatrz wszystkie garnitury beda mialy w standardzie kieszonke piersiowa oraz wewnetrzna biletowke.

Klient moze sobie tez zazyczyc monogram ktory umieszczony bedzie albo pod kolnierzem albo na podszewce wewnatrz marynarki. Do wyboru jest wiele czcionek i kolorow.

Trousers

Trousers can be made as flat fronted, single pleated or double pleated. Depth of the pleats is variable too both in forward as well as reverse option. Fly can be chosen as zip or button.
The number of buttons is set, normally there will be a hook bar and one button on the waistband. Width of the waistband is set at 3.5cm.

Brace buttons can be added on the inside of the waistband but the lining of the trousers will be set for you.

The available options for side pockets are side seam, slanted or jetted pockets. At the back of the trousers you can choose two pockets with buttons, single pocket on the right hand side, double jetted or no pocket option i.e. for dinner suits.

Spodnie moga byc wykonane z pojedycznymi lub podwojnymi zakladkami, a takze jako gladkie. Glebokosc zakladek jest modyfikowalna zarowno w wersji tych skierowanych na zewnatrz jak i do wewnatrz. Zapinanie rozporka na suwak lub guziki. Ilosc guzikow jest ustalona jakos standard i nie podlega modyfikacjom. Zazwyczaj spodnie beda mialy jeden guzik w pasie i dodatkowy haczyk. Szerokosc szlufer (pasa) jest standardowa i wynosi 3.5cm.

Oczywiscie mozna tez zazyczyc sobie wszycie guzikow na szelki po wewnetrznej stronie pasa. Podszewka spodni zostanie jednak wybrana za nas.

Boczne kieszenie mozliwe sa w opcjach: skosne (najbardziej popularne), ciete na boku spodni (pionowe) i ciete u gory. Tylne kieszenie tez sa do wyboru i mozna wybrac: dwie tylne na guzik, jedna po prawej stronie, dwie ciete, dwie z patkami albo w ogole bez kieszeni np do stroju formalnego.

As a standard option the lining is set up to the knee. In terms of cuff there are three options: medium being 4cm, higher cuff would be 5cm and lower version 3cm. I was told that the cuff can actually be ordered unfinished and the final cuff size can be chosen during the fitting.

W standardzie podszewka spodni jest wykonana do kolana. Tak samo jak w kwestii klap i patek od kieszeni tak i tutaj do wyboru sa trzy rodzaje szerokosci mankietow: srednia ma 4cm, wysoka 5cm, a niska 3cm. Powiedziano mi jednak, ze spodnie moga zostac wykonane jako nie wykonczone i ostateczna szerokosc mankietu mozna wybrac przy odbiorze.

Waistcoats

There are four main options which you can choose from: 5 button classic one, 6 button for higher gentleman, 4 button and a double breasted one but without lapels. Button stance can be adjusted, moved up or down is each of the styles.

Pockets can be chosen as jetted pockets or welted pockets. Jetted pockets can be on the waist but when you decide on welted pockets you can have a chest pocket as well.

Lining of the waistcoat can be made of the same fabric as the main lining or as the same fabric as the front of the waistcoat.

W kwestii kamizelek mamy do wyboru cztery glowne opcje: klasyczna jednorzedowa na 5 guzikow lub 6 dla wyzszych mezczyzn, wersja na 4 guziki oraz dwurzedowe (‘z’ lub ‘bez’ klap). Polozenie guzikow moze byc dowolnie zmienione w zaleznosci od preferencji i proporcji ciala w kazdym ze stylow.

Kieszenie kamizelki moga byc w dwoch wersjach kieszeni cietych (roznica jest tylko w wykonczeniu; przyznaje nie znam poprawnego polskiego tlumaczenia). Obie kieszenie beda na dole kamizelki, ale mozna tez zazyczyc sobie kieszonke na piersi.

Tyl kamizelki wykonczony bedzie albo tym samym materialem co glowna tkanina albo materialem podszewki.

Pricing

Please note that pricing in continental Europe will be expressed in € however the pricing structure in US is slightly different. Prices quoted below are starting prices for classic 100% wool super 110’s.

I also thought that it would be interesting to provide you with more detailed information on prices for specific type of fabric. So I will start with what you can expect in Blue Line:

£379-£429 price range. All of the fabrics are wools 110’s with the plain being at the lower end and more complex fabric in weave like birdseye or pattern checks available at £429. There are some mohair and wool mix cloths available as well at this price. All fabrics from Vitale Barberis Canonico.

Ceny w Europie (Holandia czy Niemcy) beda podane jako te same wartosci ale wyrazone w euro. Ceny w USA nieznacznie sie roznia. Podane nizej w tabeli ceny to wyjsciowe wartosci za materialy z welny 110’s. 

Pomyslalem tez, ze bedzie to calkiem przystepne i ciekawe jesli przekaze Wam informacje na temat dokladniejszych cen w odniesieniu do tkanin. Tak wiec w linii Blue:

Ceny zaczynaja sie od 379-429 euro. Wszystkie dostepne tkaniny to welny super 110’s, gladkie w dlnym przedziale, a bardziej zlozone jak krata lub rybia luska blizej gornej granicy. W gornej granicy dostepne sa takze sploty welny i moheru. Wszystkie tkaniny sa z Wloch od Vitale Barberis Canonico.

In the Suit Ip line there are more options and combinations:

Prices start at £469-£629 for Vitale Barberis Canonico cloth, mostly super 110’s but also some super 120’s. This range would be similar to Blue Line range of fabrics.
If you would prefer some specialist light weight fabric in window pane or super 130’s then the price would go up to £629-£749.
Super 130’s VBC would be £749-£899 in Ariston’s fabric range
Mohair’s from £749-£899, silk and wool mix £899+, linen and wool mix £649-£899, super 150’s from £829 and super 160’s from £899. Cashmere’s would be about £829-£899 but pure cashmere closer to £969+. Draper’s range from VBC mill is the finest cloth available with many cashmere or silk mixes and many super 150’s and would start at £1369.
Suitsupply MTM program also offers tweeds, mohairs, lightweight donegal tweeds, linens, cotton/linen, Irish linen, fresco, as well as heavier options for winter like flannels.

Ceny w linii Suit Up sa bardziej zlozone i jest znacznie wiecej mozliwosci:

Ceny zaczynaja sie od 469-629 euro za tkanine Vitale Barberis Canonico, wiekszosc z nich to super 110’s ale sa tez 120’s. Ta podstawowa grupa tkanin bedzie bardzo podobna do tych z Blue Line.
Jesli ktos wolalby lzejsze tkaniny w krate albo delikatniejsze super 130’s to cena bedzie sie zaczynala od 629-749 euro.
Welna 130’s od Ariston to wydatek rzedu 749-899 euro.
Moher dostepny bedzie od 749-899 euro, mieszanka jedwabiu i welny od 899 euro, len i welna 649-899 euro, welna super 150’s 829 euro a super 160’s 899 euro. Kaszmir na bardziej zimowa marynarke lub garnitur od 829-899 euro, ale czysty 100% kaszmir to bardziej 969 euro. Najlepsze tkaniny to seria Drapers od VBC gdzie znajdziemy wiele mieszanek kszmiru i welny i wiele super 150’s w cenach od 1369 euro.
W programie szycia na wymiar od Suitsupply do wyboru jest tez tweed, moher, lekka welna donegal, len, mix bawelny i lnu, len Irlandzki, fresco i wiele ciezszych opcji na zime jak np flanele. Nie sposob wymienic wszystkich, ale mysle, ze i tak informacji jest sporo.
