During my work on the film/video of Andy Murphy from Foster and Son I noticed they started offering MTO slippers made of cashmere. This is a collaboration between this bespoke shoemaker and cloth merchant Dormeuil. There is a whole range of colours available for customers and currently three models have been made up – navy, black and special version white with hand embroided Dormeuil logo. I have to say the embroided slippers are very impressive.

Dormeuil’s cashmere comes from the Gobi desert area (Mongolia), where Munchjargals – nomadic herdsmen – harvest this most sought-after wool.

Foster and Son slippers are made on thin, leather sole. One version is a little bit more elegant, evening wear I would say with soft lining while the other is more outdoor like with a leather trip around the upper. The latter is my preferred option because I think it can look great with denim in a sock-less look. It is almost like matching your denim (used to be only workwear) dress shirt with tailoring. The same applies here.

The cloth comes from Dormeuil

As you can see on the close-up photo the cashmere by Dormeuil possess what is called zibeline. This is achieved by combing, raising and directing the fabric delicately using teasels to create those unique “waves”. This ancient process of teaseling gives the fabric its glossy and very soft appearance. (I don’t know exactly who produces Dormeuil’s cashmere but I know Loro Piana uses this technique, so if any of their representatives are listening, I would love to see the process of teaseling please).
