Suitsupply MTM program #2: shirts

In the last post on Suitsupply MTM program I covered suit making. This time I want to show you what is possible in the MTM shirt program.

Semi-mtm

It does not seem it has been officially introduced on the website yet but I was told that Suitsupply recently has launched a Blue Line equivalent of MTM shirt with which you can choose from a range of almost 20 fabrics and specify your general body and collar size and choose the collar shape you want. Additionally a monogram can be added as well. It is a great option for everyone wanting a specific fabric or collar. Very often for example the bengal striped shirt will be offered in wide spread collar while you might prefer the button down or classic.

Wydaje mi sie, ze oficjalnie nie zostalo to jeszcze podane na stronie internetowej, ale powiedziano mi, ze oprocz standardowego programu mtm jest takze dostepna jego uproszczona wersja. Cos w rodzaju odpowiednika linii Blue Line – czyli rozszerzony RTW. Klient w tym wypadku wybralby rozmiar koszuli oraz kolnierzyka, material oraz styl kolnierzyka, a takze moglby zazyczyc sobie monogram. Jest to uzyteczna opcja dla osob ktore zainteresowane sa konkretnym kolnierzykiem lub tkanina. Czesto bowiem np koszula w kratke w danej kolekcji oferowana jest tylko z jednym typem kolnierzyka.

Full mtm

Similarly as with the suit the first thing in full MTM you would do is try on basic model of the shirt. Suitsupply offers Slim or Regular model and then the MTM specialist would take about 40 different measurements. These can be as detailed as armhole depth, chest, waist, hip, wrist, body and sleeve length, cuff size, bicep size, collar size. It was also interesting to know that the collar band can be adjusted, so for someone with longer neck it can be made accordingly.

Mierzone wymiary uwzgledniaja m.in.: rozmiar otworu na rekaw, wymiar klatki piersiowej i pasa, biodra, nadgarstek, dlugosc calkowita oraz dlugosc rekawa, wymiar bicepsa i nadgarstka. Co ciekawe mozna tez wybrac wysokosc stojki kolnierzyka, wiec jest to bardzo dobra opcja dla osob o dluzszej lub krotsze szyi. 

You would start by choosing either the pleated finish of the shirt and cuff or the standard one. Pleated version, more known as ‘spalla camicia’ shoulder, is very popular right now. Shirt can be made with short sleeves as well.

Wybor detali rozpoczalby sie od wyboru wykonczenia rekawa. Dostepny jest modny ostatnio wloski styl ‘spalla camicia’ czyli wszycie rekawa z drobnymi marszczeniami oraz klasyczny standardowy. Koszule mozna tez wybrac z krotkim rekawem.

There are about 40 different collar shapes that you can choose from. All collars are characterised by two key measurements: collar points and back height (collar band height). They are all precisely given in Suitsupply folder and you can also have a look at the real samples yourself. On the photo above you can see only a part of the collars available. Dinner shirts with wing collar are available as well as tab collar shirts.

W ofercie Suitsupply jest ok 40 roznych stylow kolnierzyka sposrod ktorych mozna wybierac. Wszystkie te style opisane sa dwoma glownymi wymiarami: dlugosc skrzydelek kolnierzyka oraz wysokosc stojki. Obie te wartosci sa podane dokladnie w katalogu i latwo je sprawdzic przy wyborze. Kolnierzyki sa takze dostepne do ogladniecia na miejscu w sklepie. Powyzej na zdjeciu pokazana jest tylko ich czesc. Eleganckie koszule wieczorowe dostepne sa oczywiscie z kolnierzykiem lamanym (wing collar). W ofercie sa tez kolnierzyki typu ‘tab cllar’.

Cuff style can be chosen as more casual 2 button, more classic 1 button and even a fashionable 3 button cuff. Cuff size can be independently measured so both left and right can be of different size if needed. Double cuffs are available in wide range of cuff style, i.e. round edges, square edges and interesting one – with slanted edges (mitered or notch French cuff). I haven’t got any shirt with this type of finish but apparently it is getting more popular and slanted edge helps when a gentleman spends a lot of time at his desk.

Mankiety dostepne sa w jednym z trzech stylow: zapinane na 2 guziki, 1 guzik albo niecodzienne 3 guziki. Rozmiar mankietow moze byc dobrany dowolnie po obu stronach co znaczy, ze np mozliwe jest wykonanie wiekszego rozmiaru na rece na ktorej klient nosi zegarek. W mankiecie na 2 guziki mozliwe jest tez dobranie rozmiaru kazdego z nich tak, aby np pierwszy pasowal na bardziej plaski i mniejszy zegarek elegancki, a ten drugi na sportowy weekendowy. W koszulach z podwojnym mankietem (tzw francuskim) mozna wybrac wykonczenie proste, zaokraglone lub z scietymi brzegami. Nigdy nie mialem takiej koszuli, ale podobno jest wygodniejsza w uzyciu jesli wiele czasu spedzamy przy biurku – mankiety o scietych brzegach nie zawadzaja o kat biurka).

Interlining of both the collar and cuff can be ordered in three different levels: soft, standard and hard and there is even option with no interlining at all. The fitting shirts all have medium interlining to indicate the stiffness.

The buttoning of the shirt (placket) can be ordered as standard (visible buttons), plain front (visible buttons) or hidden button. The width of the placket can also be adjusted, i.e. for smaller tab collar. Tuxedo shirt can be made with pleated front, plain or pique.

Usztywnienie kolnierzyka i mankietow oferowane jest tez w trzech roznych wariantach: miekki, sredni i sztywny, a takze opcja calkowicie bez zadnego usztywnienia. Wszystkie koszule probne wykonano w opcji sredniej tak aby dac poglad na temat sztywnosci.

Koszule mozna wybrac z guzikami i zapieciem (plisa) standardowym (widoczne), z frontem gladkim (guziki widoczne) oraz z schowanymi guzikami (plisa kryta). Co ciekawe mozna tez wybrac szerokosc plisy, uzyteczne np przy mniejszych kolnierzykach. Koszule smokingowe moga byc wykonane z frontem z pionowymi plisami lub w wersji gladkiej, a takze gladkiej z piki. 

There are four different options for the back of the shirt: plain (no pleats), double side pleats, single center pleat and small pleats (would be an obvious option for more Italian shirt).

Dostepne sa cztery rozne opcje wykonczenia plecow koszuli: gladki, z dwoma zakladkami po obu stronach, z jedna centralna oraz z wieloma bardzo waskimi w stylu wloskim (naturalny wybor jesli wczesniej zdecydowalismy sie na koszule z ramienie ‘spalla camicia’).

A customer can also choose a darted finish of the back however because your shirt is being made exactly to your measurements the plain finish is most popular. If the darts are required they can certainly be made as requested.

Breast pocket can be added to the front if needed.

Jesli klient sobie tego zyczy to mozliwe jest tez wybranie zakladek na plecach, ale nie jest to zazwyczaj konieczne poniewaz koszula i tak wykonana jest dokladnie wg naszych wymiarow. Zastosowanie takiego zabiegu moze byc konieczne jesli ktos ma wyraznie wygiety odcinek ledzwiowy i w tym miejscu wystepuje nadmiar materialu. Na froncie koszuli mozna tez dodac kieszonke piersiowa.

Another subtle but nice details can be found in Suitsupply MTM program. Similarly as with suits the edge stitching can be specified. There are three different options: 1mm, 3mm or 6mm from the edge. 1mm is very popular with formal style shirts especially for gentleman using collar bones. In this way one can be assured that they go up to the very end of the shirt.

Kolejny dosc subtelny, ale calkiem uzyteczny detal dostepny w programie szycia na miare to odleglosc szwow od krawedzi. Podobnie jak w garniturze mamy do wyboru trzy rozne odleglosci: 1mm, 3mm albo 6mm od krawedzi. Opcja 1mm jest szczegolnie uzyteczna w formalnych koszulach z osztywnieniami kolnierzyka. Mamy wtedy pewnosc ze sa one umiejscowione na samym koncu skrzydelek kolnierzyka.

There is also a wide range of places where you can put a contrast lining: back of the collar, under the cuffs or under the placket.

Monogram options are available as well, very similar to options available for suits. The position of the monogram can be chosen too. It can be placed in the outside of the collar band, on the inside, on the body of the shirt and with different distance from the bottom, on the cuff (above or below).

As a button attachment you can choose one of the options presented below, so cross or lily.

Suitsupply oferuje tez mozliwosc uzycia kontratujacego materialu w wielu miejscach koszuli, np pod kolnierzykiem lub mankietami.  Monogram moze byc dodany podobnie jak w marynarce. Kolory nici i styl liter jest ten sam, natomiast polozenie to na zewnatrz lub wewnatrz kolnierzyka, na gorze lub dole mankietu oraz na froncie koszuli ok 20-30cm od jej dolu.
Guziki moga byc przyszyte na dwa rozne sposoby pokazane ponizej.

In terms of shirt fabric, there are about 200 options, including about 30 different types of plain white fabric.

Shirt prices start at £119 (119 euro respectively in Europe). Prices in US are slightly different.

Summary

I think this post summarises the Suitsupply MTM program. In the previous post I described possible options for suits and waistcoats. It is also possible to have an overcoat made by Suitsupply so if you guys would like more information about this I can write a separate post.
