Testoria shirts – review and buying guide

Testoria shirts review

Most of you will know that I am a big fan of Luxire mtm shirts. I write about them rather often not because I have a contract with them but because they are damn good. I have used them since 2012 and have already purchased quite a collection of shirts and trousers. I am pretty sure they offer the best price/quality ratio shirts on the market and I really appreciate that. Is there any competition, you might ask? If you would like similar shirt, is there any alternative?

testoria

One of the first brands I decided to give a try in terms of made to measure shirts is Testoria, Korean brand founded in 2013.

They specialise in making made to measure and ready to wear shirts for men. Most of the fabrics are from Italy and come from renewed producers i.e. Testa. You can also choose Soktas or local Korean fabric if you like. Apart from shirts they also sell Italian ties, sweaters or socks. Among other brands they sell are for example: Pochetter, Quaranta Locatelli, Colombo scarfs and many others.

Shirts

Celem przetestowania koszul marki Testoria zamówiłem u nich dwie koszule.

In order to test and review their products I ordered two shirts. The owner of the brand was very helpful and adviced me on both sizing and fabric. He replied very quickly each time. To give you a better idea about the product I ordered one of the shirts as made to measure while the other as made in a standard size. That would allow me to review quality and fit of the two options.

TESTORIA shirt offerings

Testoria offers two lines of shirts: Basic line and Bespoke line. Main difference between those lines are the amount of hand finish and possible adjustments to the measurements.

In the basic line we choose a specific size, type of collar and the fabric. In the bespoke line however we can adjust all the measurements including biceps or cuff size. Testoria was also willing to adjust the armhole measurement for me. I also asked for a shirt with adjusted shoulder slope for my forward pinching shoulders. In terms of modifications then (in the Bespoke line) Testoria is on par with Luxire. The basic shirt I purchased – in chambray fabric – is made of Korean cloth, the other one is made of Italian fabric from Testa in navy stripes – Testa is a provider of one of the finest shirt fabrics in the world. Both are 100% cotton. The characteristics of the bespoke line shirt are:

Charakterystyka koszuli Bespoke to:

  • split yoke (dzielony karczek)
  • hand made shirring/pleating of the sleevehead, back and cuffs (recznie marszczone wszycie rękawa, pleców oraz mankietów)
  • collar stiffeners (worki fiszbinowe)
  • double French seams (szwy bieliźniane)
  • gussets on the bottom of the side seams (wzmocnienia bocznych szwów)
  • buttons sewn by hand with a shank (wszyscie guzików “na wysoko”)

6 types of collars are available (do wyboru mamy 6 rodzajów kołnierzyka):

  • Regular (zwykły)
  • Wide spread (rozwarty)
  • Tab collar (kołnierzyk na spinke)
  • Round (zaokrąglony)
  • One piece regular (wykonany z jednego kawałka materiału, zwykły)
  • One piece wide (wykonany z jednego kawałka materiału, rozwarty)

Both of my shirts have wide spread collar. I wanted to pair it with shirring at the shoulders and across the back for a more Italian look. There are additional hidden buttons underneath the collar wings to make sure that when buttoned the collar sits perfectly and doesn’t wrinkle or bend upwards.

Stosuje go niewielu producentów.

Horizontal buttonhole is not placed as the last one, as usual, but as a third one from the button. In this way its position is closer to the belly button and not in the crotch area. I have seen many gentleman stretching the shirt horizontally because of their size but I cant imagine this being a problem with a horizontal buttonhole deep into the trousers. Smart move by Testoria.

placing horizontal buttonhole at the belly level makes so much more sense that at the last button at the bottom of the shirt

It was a must-have for me to have the sleeve head made as spalla camicia. This details however is not that easy to make as I have shirts from Luxire which have too much fabric in this area. It might have something to do with the angle of the sleeve and the way it has been sewed to the body. Luxire sleeve is sewed at approx 90deg angle while Testoria did it much better. Sleeve head is flat and there is no excess of fabric whatsoever. I am very happy with this. See photo below.

Niekiedy dawało to zbyt kobiecy wygląd koszuli i swojego rodzaju odstające ramiona.

Sleeves in the Bespoke line are rotated. This means that the side seam and the sleeve can’t be sewed in one go. It is often the case with most producers as it is cheaper and easier. In order to achieve perfect fit the sleeve has to be positioned at an angle. Sleeve has to be set and sewed while ‘rotated’. Luxire offers this as a standard. It is available within the bespoke line from Testoria.

Another aspect which is usually neglected by the users is the buttoning. The way buttons have been sewed into the shirt plays a major role. Because when the shirt is button up there are two layers of fabric between the button and fabric. Shank is necessary to allow for easy buttoning and unbuttoning. Without it you can also experience extensive wrinkling around the button. Buttons are obviously made of mother of pearl, which is a standard for high quality producers.

Sleeve cuffs are also a bit longer than normal. Testoria’s cuffs are 6cm long while Luxire uses 5cm. It is, as far as I am concerned, only a stylistic aspect and should not be given too much attention in terms of quality. Long ones are probably a bit more elegant. Size-wise the measurement of the cuff size can be very confusing. I experienced that with Testoria, my fault actually. I assumed they do that one way while obviously there are many ways to measure the size. Not sure there is only one proper method though:

  • brand A: between middle of buttonhole and button
  • brand B: between start and end of cuff
  • brand C: between start of cuff and button

Daje to duży komfort szczególnie podczas rozpinania guzików.

  • marka A: pomiędzy środkiem dziurki a guzikiem
  • marka B: pomiędzy początkiem i końcem mankietu
  • marka C: pomiędzy początkiem mankietu a guzikiem
  • testoria shirts

    button on the cuff

    testoria shirts

    shirring at the shirt cuffs

As you can see there can be from few millimetres to few centimeters of difference. It is very important to make this clear as later the shirt might be unusable. Of course it is easy to move the buttons but nevertheless. Let’s always make sure we understand our order.

If I am to compare the fit it is clear that the bespoke line fits much better. Considering it is a made to measure shirt and not bespoke I am extremely happy with the fit. It feel very good especially in the arms and shoulders. Chest fits very well too, there are no wrinkles and it looks clear even when wearing braces. The length is enough to make sure it always is in your trousers. Collar has some interlining in it so with the collar bones would look very elegant. I do not wear them at all as i prefer more casual look.

Jeśli chodzi o dopasowanie to zdecydowanie linia Bespoke leży lepiej.

Recommended fabrics are from Italian producer Testa. Top quality, they are not too easy to wrinkle. After few washes the fabrics is still soft and very comfortable against the body. Chambray is made in Korea and is substantially thicker. It also feels more rough against the body so it would be more suitable for colder months. I am sure the Soktas fabrics would be great as well.

Jeśli chodzi o tkaniny koszul to z dużą pewnością polecam tkaniny włoskiej marki Testa.

Buying guide

Testoria’s website is a little bit confusing and it is difficult to get your head around it at first. It is nice and tidy but not 100% clear on where to find all the information. In order to choose and buy yourself a shirt you need to go to the ‘menu’ first and choose ‘shirts’. You will see a selection of RTW shirts. I will focus on ordering the Bespoke line shirt as the RTW is self explanatory.

The choice we need to make is between type of the collar and specific fabric. Apart from this we only have to provide our measurements.

testoria shirts

Testoria shirts shopping – choose fabric

  1. Type of the collar (rodzaj kołnierzyka)
  2. Fabric (tkanina)

At this stage, the most important thing is to choose the fabric you like. I know that Testoria offers many of the Testa and Soktas fabrics so if you know a specific one it would be worth asking. They might have it even though if RTW shirt is not available in it. Shirts named ‘Testoria shirts’ are made of Korean fabrics. Those that have the shirt fabrics producer in the name are made of those fabrics, i.e Testa or Soktas.

Choosing Basic or Bespoke line as well as the collar type; price is updated accordingly

Once you are decided on the fabric and collar you can choose Basic or Bespoke line. When choosing Bespoke from the menu the price will automatically go up by 30000 won. Italian or Turkish fabrics are more expensive and will cost between 20-30000 more. The most expensive shirt would cost then 148 000 won which is approx (£90), which I think is a great price. The fabric itself normally costs around £20. The most affordable option is to go for Basic line shirt and that would cost 88 000 won. You don’t have to choose size now because you will be providing your own measurements anyway. It is best to send them by email, you can contact the brand before ordering to confirm.

If there is anything else you would like to know then please comment below or send email. I will try to help. Hope that you find this review/guide useful. If so then please consider sharing this post with your friends on social media or like the link on facebook. That would really help me run the blog.
