Safari Jacket MTM

Disclaimer: this post is unsponsored.

Today I would like to present you a safari jacket and two makers who can produce them made to measure. Safari jacket in terms of fit is a mix between a shirt and a casual jacket therefore it is important to get the fit right. Have a read below on two offerings of such garments.

You all now by now how big fan of field jacket I am. I love how versatile they are and that they have so many pockets. Most of the time I wear them only over the weekend when I often have my camera with me. Sony fans appreciate the fact that you need at least 1 spare battery each time you shoot so that takes one pocket. Wallet, keys and my travel card take the other pockets. Phone goes into the trousers front pocket and that’s it.

At the start of the spring season I thought why not get something similar only for warmer weather. It is in a good taste to wear summer fabrics for warmer weather. I decided that safari jacket in linen would get some use this season and only know of two makers at the moment who offer safari jackets made to order: B&Tailor and Zaremba.

Zaremba MTM Safari Jacket

Zaremba have only started offering safari jackets in their mtm system very recently. Clearly it was expected by their clients as Maciej told me they had the first order even before officially launching the service.

At Zaremba you can choose any colour of W. Bill linen cloth to have you jacket made. There is an option to modify both the total length and the length of the sleeves in regard to a standard size. Available sizes start from 44 and go up to 58, I am glad they do 44 and 46 for all those shorter guys (myself included). Linen is a classic summer fabric providing coolness. Due to its 300g weight you don’t have to be too worried about the wrinkles. It has horn buttons and hand-made buttonholes finished to the same level as the Zaremba bespoke garments. The other modification includes the colour of the thread. Safari jackets are made at Zaremba workshop in Warsaw by their tailor. Waiting time is about 3 weeks. Cost: 500 euro. It is available to order from the workshop or online at Zaremba’s online store here.

Above photo shows a prototype. Final jacket will not have Zaremba’s logo on it.

B&Tailor Safari Jacket MTM

The other brand that is offering classic safari jacket in MTM service is Korean B&Tailor (you can find more info about them in my other post here). They actually have both, the RTW and MTM.

The offer differs slightly from that of Zaremba. While the cut and style are almost identical, B&Tailor only offers three colours now: white, brown and navy, all 100% linen. On the other hand there are more adjustments available in terms of fit and size. With their MTM option you can send in your measurements and the jacket will be made according to them. Remember to add your collar size! What is important that at B&Tailor for MTM safari jacket they will create a new pattern, based on your measurements. RTW comes in SX, S, M and L size and B&tailor can provide you with the size table if you need it. Fabric comes from Dugdale, British cloth merchant and buttons are made of horn. It is not being made on B&Tailor premises.

As you can see B&Tailor’s safari jacket has different collar, Zaremba’s being more like a jacket with lapels almost. Both are very similar though.

Prices are similar too, RTW is $500 while the MTM is $580 (approx. 500euro). Waiting time about 3-4 weeks for the made to measure version, RTW depends on the stock.

Summary

Both Zaremba and B&Tailor being bespoke tailor have the necessary skills and taste to design and produce beautiful and classic garments. If you are looking for stylish and casual clothes for summer then the safari jacket would be a perfect choice. In choosing the made to order option you have the flexibility of choosing the right fit, colour that you like most and details that will make it stand out from the rest. For those who care, safari jacket is definitely going to be a very popular item in the next few seasons to come. Not that it ever was out of style. Choose ivory, tobacco or beige for more safari look and navy or brown for more classic look.

I ordered mine few weeks ago so expect it to be ready soon. Will obviously write a review here.

Thanks for reading, as always! Hope you like this post. More photos below.
