Laszlo Vass shoes – Blue loafers in suede

Long holidays break, sadly, is finished and it is time to go back to you readers and my usual work.

Few months ago, when it was still warm, I ordered a long awaited pair Laszlo Vass shoes – blue loafers in suede (previous post). They are inspired by a pair I saw once on Tumblr. Their simplicity and simple design caught my eye and I decided I have to get a pair of these made one day.

Zasluzone wakacje skonczone, niestety, ale czas wracac do normalnosci czyli wznowic aktywnosc bloga. Ostatnio dawalem oznaki zycia jedynie przez Instagram, najwyzsza pora to zmienic.

Do rzeczy.

Obviously they are in navy (blue) suede. I believe suede loafers can be worn as often as the leather version, additionally, they are very handy in the summer as blue suede shoe goes well with almost everything. I hesitate to wear loafers here in London during winter but if any of you live in the warmer part of the world then I would encourage you to wear them even now.

Coming back to the design. I ordered them as a mix between tassel loafers and penny loafers. They take the stitching around the toes area from the former and plain front with only one thin piece of the leather on the top from the latter. Well, you can say they look like a tassel loafer only that they miss the tassel itself. This I think expresses the shape of the shoe better. As usual in Vass shoes, they are characterised by a relatively high heel – at least higher than in most of other brands I own. They are constructed using goodyear welted method and feature a closed channel sole from Rendenbach. Again, a characteristic by Vass shoes – the sole is stiffer than in other brands, also slightly thicker so please note that before purchasing. Generally shoe is a bit heavier compared i.e. to its English brands. The height of the upper is just right around ankles being nicely cut, quite low, like in a bespoke shoe.

I haven’t worn them yet but will definitely be worn often during Pitti next year. I can not comment on the comfort then. Size-wise I went for the same as in U-last, this pair is made on a F-last (famous Vass shoes lasts). F last is very similar in the arch of the foot however wider in the toe area. It means that your foot possibly can go deeper into the shoe leaving more space in the heel. Recommended is going up half a size when choosing F last compared to U last. I find F to be much more suited for more casual shoe like a loafer rather than U which is a bit too aggressive for my taste. The suede is very smooth and soft – something I clearly wanted to achieve – unfortunately it has 2 marks. They are barely visible but can be spotted on the photographs below. Leather has been provided by French tannery Haas (official website, article), the same that is used by others like Louis Vuitton, Hermes or Gucci.

Shoes have also got metal toe plates for extra protection.

Have a look yourself and let me know what do you think about those Vass shoes in the comments.
