The real Pitti Uomo

The real Pitti Uomo

While the title might sound like a cliche I wanted to grab your attention. Pitti Uomo is a very popular trade fair that is held in Florence bi-annually. Many menswear enthusiasts like me visit it every time because they are passionate about men’s style, elegance, clothing and craftsmanship. Most of fans though are not able to go to Pitti every time and rely on the “pitti uomo articles” and “street-style photos” they can find online. That’s the power of internet. We can access almost instantly the events that happen on the other side of the world. With the increased popularity of apps like Snapchat or Periscope we literally can experience those events with a help of our smartphones. That is quite amazing. As fantastic as it is many of those writing the “Pitti Uomo posts” and even more – the street-style photo journals are attention seekers. The more interesting the more people will click and watch it.

Our own style is based on what we see, how we then transform it to our environment and tailor it to our personality. Not everyone likes navy double breasted pinstriped suits no matter how stylish they are. It simply won’t match everyone’s work environment and would look silly. So we observe, notice, adjust and take only those things that work for us. However this perception is skewed if we only see one side of it. I haven’t seen many different articles dealing with the style you can see at Pitti Uomo. All are similar, the same ‘influencers’ all the time. It works because ‘influencers’ wants to be photographed, they share links to photos, people click them and the process continues.

The beauty of mens fashion and style is its diversity. It is a bit sad for me to say but I feel like the classic elegance has recently been missing in those Pitti Uomo photos. More and more extravagance and sartorialism which is more often than not understood as colourful bow tie, huge accessories and colourful short suits. Below you can find some photos we took during the fair last week and I hope they will show you more of the classic elegance.

Classic elegance is so much about simplicity, textures and patterns that complement each other and appropriate fabrics. They are pale colours, summer fabrics, there is comfort and practicality and also some sort of casualness. An ease of wearing clothes that suit you and your surroundings.

Thanks for reading guys! Have a look at the photos with the commentary below and let me know your thoughts about Pitti style you saw.
